Putting an End to Tooth Decay

Combatting Cavities with Tooth-Colored Fillings

If you’ve recently found out that you have a cavity, you may be curious about the dental filling process.

During a dental filling procedure, we will first remove the decayed area before filling it with a tooth-colored resin. This restorative treatment helps to protect the area from further damage while restoring the function and appearance of your tooth.

At our practice in Bethesda, we use only white resin for our dental fillings, which blends in seamlessly with the rest of your smile while keeping you
pain-free!

Combatting Cavities with Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings vs. Amalgam

You’ve probably heard about both tooth-colored fillings and traditional amalgam fillings (or metal fillings). But, what’s the difference between the two?

The main difference between tooth-colored fillings vs. amalgam is their appearance against the rest of your teeth. Amalgam is the traditional silver color while tooth-colored fillings are made from a white resin to match the other teeth in your smile. While amalgam fillings used to be stronger than tooth-colored fillings, advancements in resin material have made the tooth-colored fillings just as strong as amalgam fillings (if properly cared for).
